events, whynot utilize it?”Greene
said. “If there’s a music fan that
doesn’t know much about visual
arts, they can come appreciate
that and vice versa. It’s a good
opportunity for all different kind
of artists to meet and network.”
There will be a palette of different
sounds during the music events.
“Every genre you can imagine
is gonna be here over the next
month,” Jeremy Mangano, who
curated themusical acts, said. On
opening night, starting at 6 p.m.,
guests will get to enjoy beer, wine,
snacks and live music from two
or three acts. “It’s going to be low
key because opening night will be
about weaving through, seeing
the art and talking to the artists,”
GabrielleMangano said.
At 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 24,
visitors will get to experience the
Color Cabaret: A Musical Revue
Inspired By the Primary Colors.
“James and I belong to the Rock-
away Theatre Company, so we
connected with the musical di-
rector and six different vocalists
to organize a special cabaret,”
Gabrielle Mangano said. “Each
color is associated with a mood.
The first songs are inspired by
blue, so they’re all bluesy, soul-
ful, sad songs. Red will be angry,
passionate, rock type songs. Yel-
lowwill be joyful, uplifting, start-
your-day kind of songs.” Greene
added, “There will be songs that
everyone will recognize, so it
will be a nice thing for people of
all ages. You’ll hear everything
from Rihanna to the Beatles to
Frankie Valli to Ozzy Osbourne.”
Other music events include
DJs from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m on
April 30, Lorena Leigh & the Di-
nosaurs, as well as The Skells,
on May 6 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.,
and The Grayriders on May 7,
from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. On Sat-
urday, May 14, there will be a
Battle of the Bands, in which five
bands will play for 20 minutes,
and the crowd will vote to deter-
mine who gets to play a longer
set and who takes home a cash
prize, trophy and the opportuni-
ty to play again at the closing fes-
tival. Erin Willett fromThe Voice
will headline the closing music
festival, which will take place
from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on May
21. Tickets for each music event
are $10 and can be purchased at
the door.
Noisy Paint Box will also
feature two free non-music
events. From 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
on May 1, the curators will
give kids a taste of the kids-
mART program. “We’re go-
ing to do synesthesia-themed
crafts, dances and games and
we’re going to read ‘The Noisy
Paint Box’ book,” Greene said.
On May 7, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.,
small businesses, artisans and
craftsmen will come together
for a shopping event called the
Maker’s Marketplace.
“There will be something dif-
ferent every weekend. You don’t
have to leave to get a bit of cul-
ture and music and art here.
There’s always a lot of stuff go-
ing on in Fort Tilden but this is
something that’s never been
done before. Everyone should
come check it out,” Greene said.
The Noisy Paint Box will be open
Saturdays and Sunday from 12
p.m. to 4 p.m. through May 22.
