RAA Irish Variety Show This Sunday
Ready to get your Irish on?
This Sunday, March 19, the
Rockaway Artists Alliance is
ready to roll out their annu-
al St. Patrick’s Irish-themed
variety show.
Starting at 1 p.m., the com-
munity and family friendly
show will feature music, sto-
ries, humor and more in the
RAA’s T-7 Gallery at Fort Til-
den.
Admission is free, though
donations are always wel-
come.
Performing a mix of Irish
songs- favorites, traditional
and new, and other mate-
rial, will be Sheila Cassidy,
Walter Ensor, Kevin Stokes
and Joe Culleton of “The
Locals,” plus John Simonelli
and Dan Guarino, who will
also host.
We hear there may even
be whiff of corned beef and
cabbage, and other refresh-
ments in the air.
“We’ve been doing this
show for a few years now,”
Guarino said. “We’ve been
able to get some very tal-
ented performers and also
some very surprise guests.
Not long ago we had a wom-
an who raised her hand and
shyly asked if she could sing
a song. She blew the room
away!”
“More than that, people
from all over the community
come out and have fun at this
show. As I explain to people,
in Rockaway, St. Patrick’s is
not a day, it’s a season!”
Visitors can also come
early and enjoy RAA’s new-
est exhibition, Designed By
Nature. The gallery is open
Sunday and Saturdays from
12 to 4 p.m. This is their first
showcase of the year and
runs to April 19.
The Rockaway Artists Al-
liance invites everyone in
Rockaway and Broad Chan-
nel to join in and “go green”
this Sunday.
And that’s not just pulling
your leprechaun!

Check out the VW bug and the old-time bus on Rockaway
Beach Boulevard and Beach 86th Street. The Columbia Savings
Bank is long gone, replaced by a supermarket/deli. Oh, you
could get better than six percent on your money, according to
the ad in the bank’s window. Historian James Supple gave us
these great photos. He’s got lots more to share at his wonderful
