The DIYer

With almost a month left of Summer, who wants to think about fall? The DIYer’s do….

I will be covering each of these projects in detail in future weekly articles.

CONTINUED from last week's DIY column:

6 - Fix your screens. It won't.

It won’t be long before the weather cools down and you’ll want to shut off the A/C and open the windows. Now is the time to check those screens and repair them as needed. Just take your damaged screen to the local hardware store. Pick it up a week later and pop it back in.

7- Check walkways and driveways. Now is when you want to walk the property and check all walkways, driveways, patios, etc. for cracks. Sealing minor cracks is easy. Once the weather cools down and water gets into those cracks and freezes, it can become a major repair.

8- Check windows and doors for drafts. During summer months, most people wouldn’t notice if they have a drafty window. But you’ll notice when it gets cooler. Check them now and be ready for the cooler weather.

9- Check electric heaters. Pull out those electric heaters and give them the once over. Just because it works, doesn’t mean it’s safe. Check for damage to cords, etc. If they need to be replaced, do it now before you need them.

10- Fire escape plan. Too many times a house or apartment has a fire and the house/apartment next to it is damaged as well. Just in case your neighbor is not being as safe as you are, you should have a plan in case of an emergency.
