There was a news report last week that Mayor de Blasio has increased his use of police helicopters to get around.  Not surprising when so many Vision Zero measures have clogged streets.  What’s with the insane left turn only lane on Rockaway Beach Boulevard and Beach 108th?!

Time flies. A year ago the Beach Club property was sold to the Marcal Group for $5 million.  Demolition is now underway for what will be a condo development.

This one took us by surprise.  The Rockaway Times and some columnists sometimes get letters taking exception to something written. It comes with the territory. But we didn’t expect a letter taking great offense at our Local Color page which merely showcases the photographic talents of local folks.  It’s popular and we get more photos than we can print but that wasn’t the gripe.  The letter in question is printed in this week’s edition on Page 14.

There will be a tree lighting on Beach 116th Street starting at 5 p.m. on Friday, December 9th.  Democratic District Leader Lew Simon, former Brown’s Hardware owner Liz Hanna, Lola Star, and the Rockaway Civic Association are sponsoring the seasonal fun.  They stepped up after word got out that the traditional ceremony wasn’t going to happen this year.

City Councilman Eric Ulrich has been mulling a mayoral run.  And now his mulling might become part of a Reality TV series.  A production company is trying to get a show up and running by spring.  If the series includes some Rockaway characters, it’s sure to be a hit.

Did they do away with holiday gift giving and not tell us?  Apparently December is National Stress Free Family Holiday Month.

Check your E-Zpass statements.  Because residents are entitled to discounts on the Marine Parkway Bridge (and free on the Cross Bay) you might not watch those statements carefully.  We got a call about someone being overcharged for years.  If you think that’s happened, call the MTA and then call your City Councilman and State Reps.

For those of you of who’ve missed Peter Mahon’s column, Between The Bridges, rest assured, he’ll be back.  Actually, he’s the one who could use some rest after a recent bout of pneumonia.  Get well, Pete !
