Congratulations to Foley Fatukasi, the Channel View grad, who was drafted by the New York Jets in the recent NFL draft after a stellar career at UConn. At Channel View, Foley played alongside Justin Zemser, the Navy midshipman who was killed in an Amtrak crash in May 2015.

Scammy scammers. We don’t have to tell you that calls from the IRS are fake, do we? The calls must still work because they sure are frequent. Be advised: The IRS uses snail mail. Not the phone, not email. And speaking of scammers, we don’t know what the Chinese scammers are trying to scam when they call our cell phones because we don’t speak Chinese.  And we don’t know why Con Edison scammers call people in Rockaway about overdue bills since Con Ed doesn’t service the Rockaway.

Thanks to all who came out to view and choose favorites among the hundreds of photos entered into The Rockaway Times Photo Contest.  A top 30 was selected and those will be in line to compete for the $500 Grand Prize and they’ll be blown up to poster size and be put on public display. Didn’t get chosen?  Well, you might still be the one we choose to be on the cover of The Summer Guide. The judges did not select a few of our favorites so there’s still a chance your photo will achieve its own glory!
