Volleyball canceled? A bit of mystery was cast over the reason the games were called off as The Rockaway Times went to press.  First report was a permitting issue.  But an NPS official said an "incident" was being investigated and games would be suspended until NPS and RBVL officials meet to discuss. Here's hoping things get worked out by next week.

We like nice phone calls. Thanks to those who left messages about The Rockaway Times Summer Guide and about The Rockaway Times Photo Contest that are now on display on the boardwalk, at the ferry stop, and in the park (next to the library) in Broad Channel.

You may have heard that the Mayor is planning to scrap admissions test for specialized high schools. Many charged that he was looking to lower standards for these top schools. On the subject, City Hall sent out a press release with an unfortunate typo: “MAYOR DE BLASIO, CHANCELLOR CARRANZA ANNOUNCE REFROMS TO THE SPECIALIZED HIGH SCHOOL ADMISSIONS PROCESS.” Refroms? Really? Are standards going THAT low????

Here’s a heads up to make sure you’re being charged the right rate at gas stations that have lower prices for paying cash. Make sure to double check the pump to make sure you’re getting the cash rate instead of the credit card rate.

Those term limits make for great musical chairs. And it’s never too early to run, we guess. It’ll be 2021 before we know it. City Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer is holding a fundraiser in Rockaway on Saturday, June 9 at 7 p.m. You can call Mohammed Saleheen at 212-213-2660 for more info. What’s he running for? Well, he hasn’t said, but his husband, Dan Hendrick wrote in an email, “While he hasn't made it official, let's just say I think he would make a great Queens Borough President!”
