Congrats to Sean and Eun-Chong (EJ) Thorsen, the proud parents of a baby boy who was the first Rockaway baby of 2019. They’re still deciding on a name. The young lad was actually born on January 2. In other years, newborns have arrived just minutes after the ball drops in Times Square.

Maybe it’s time to hoard some Forever stamps (not that they’ll be available!) Stamps are going up a nickel as of January 27. A nickel sounded like a lot and sure enough it’s the biggest hike since 1991. The cost of a stamp will be a double-nickel, 55 cents.

As we’ve noted, Eric Ulrich is running for Public Advocate. And so is a couple of dozen others. But if all the Democrats split the vote, maybe the lone Republican (we think he’s the only one to announce) will find himself as the winner. If he does win, there’ll have to be a special election for his City Council seat. We’re thinking a lot of would-be candidates are eyeing that possibility.

Look at the bright side. Resolutions are worth it even if you can’t stick with them. If you promised to diet for the whole year and you gave up after a day at least you got one good day in.

The free stuff we give away can turn pretty darn valuable. We’ve been giving away St. John’s basketball tickets and now they’re the hottest team in town. The Johnnies knocked off 16th-ranked Marquette the other night to improve to 12-1 on the season. And how hot are the tickets now?  Famous front-runner John McEnroe was spotted courtside at Tuesday’s game. (McEnroe rooted for the Knicks when they were good, and then rooted for the Lakers and now is on the Red Storm bandwagon). We’ve got four tickets for Saturday, January 12. The Parks Department says, “Put on your boots and haul your tree to a Mulchfest location — we'll chip your tree into wood chips that we'll use to nourish trees and make NYC even greener.”  You can drop off your tree at Beach 94th Street and Shore Front Parkway or at the Far Rockaway Skate Park parking lot at Beach 11th Street and Seagirt Boulevard. Sanitation will do curbside pickup through January 12. Call 311 if you need more info.

Some readers got mixed up because we came out on the Friday of Christmas week (and this week). Sorry, but we did tell you! F Troop back to normal next week.
