Happy Mother’s Day! If you’re wondering how we got our mom pictures in this week’s paper, we asked last week! And keep an eye out, we'll be asking for dear old dad photos in a few weeks.

This could be something. Or like for decades, it could be nothing. So, an outfit named Sea Wave Realty that owned the Park Inn Home for Adults and the Sand Bar building, and a string of vacant stores from the boardwalk to the theater on the east side of Beach 116th Street, right off the boardwalk. There was some overlap between Sea Wave and the operators of the adult home with some owners living in Rockaway and most not. Well, just a month ago, Sea Wave transferred ownership rights to Beach 116 Ocean Promenade LLC.

The 39th Annual Buckley’s to Kennedy’s 5k Charity Run is Sunday, May 19 (rain or shine), and this year the event is in memory of John Kelly, the former rugby coach at Xavier. He was much loved and remains much missed.

You are not alone. That is if you think every Rockaway road feels like the surface of the moon. When driving, it feels like you’re in a covered wagon going through Boulder Canyon. Of course, some side streets are getting paved when they don’t need paving but hey, somebody’s making a buck.

It’s easy to forget. The MTA was supposed to conduct a study about a one-seat ride from JFK to Manhattan which would include reactivating or repurposing the abandoned Rockaway Branch Line. A little birdy told us the study was done. Our guess is that it’s favorable to Rockaway and (not so much to those who want an elevated park instead), that’s why it’s being kept under wraps. We have sent a Freedom of Information request to the MTA. And we’ve reached out to Systra Engineering, the company who was awarded the contract to do the study a couple years back. This study is like the A Train, it’s taking forever.

Congratulations to the shop owners who participated in another successful Taste of Rockaway. They’re happy to see new faces, of course, but it's a long, hard day. A couple of places closed early (private parties previously booked, ran out of giveaways, they normally close earlier than 6 p.m., etc.), which drew some gripes, but most people just happily moved on to another place.

The Concessions open next Friday, May 17. It’s a great day for locals to enjoy the beachfront places before the crowds descend.

We ran into a Brooklyn transplant, somebody who’s moved here recently. How’s Rockaway living, we asked. Great, no complaints. Give him time, give him time.

Long-time Queens District Attorney Richard Brown died last week at the age of 86. He was elected seven times to the office which he held since 1991. Seven Democrats are running in a June 25 primary to take over the DA post. The general election will be in November, but it is expected the Dem victor in June will coast in November. There are no term limits for this position, so the June primary winner might be setting prosecution policy for many years.
