Pat Morgan died on Friday, July 5. Pat did a stint with us as a part-time reporter a few years back. He was chock-full of ideas and always appeared upbeat, despite ongoing health challenges, and he was always ready with a quip. Brooklyn-born and raised, he came to Rockaway 17 years ago and got right into the life here, becoming a band member of Solshyne, the popular musical group. It’s difficult to sum up his rich life but we know there’s a simple truth: Pat will be missed by many.

Someone found a couple of passports dropped on the street near the ferry and dropped them off with us hoping we might be able to use social media to get the passports back to the owners. The passports were of twin sisters, just 10 years old. We posted it online but had no luck so we did what you’re supposed to do if you find a lost passport. We mailed it to the U.S. State Department in Sterling, Virginia.

Last week we wrote, “Tiffany Cabán has a bigger lead over Melinda Katz in the Queens DA race after machine votes were recounted, according to the Daily News. Although absentee ballots have not yet been counted, the odds heavily favor Cabán.” We went to press and minutes later there was a report that Katz was suddenly ahead by 20 votes. A full recount is underway. Ben Max of the Gotham Gazette had a funny tweet: Think the DA race is close? A spokesperson for Cabán is named Daniel and a spokesperson for Katz is Daniele.

Whether Katz wins or not, she’s still running the Katz Concert Series. On Sunday, July 28 at Beach 94th Street and the Boardwalk, a Beatles tribute band (we hope it’s Blac Rabbit!) will perform the great tunes of the Fab Four.

We got an email from City Councilman Donovan Richards with the subject line: I Hope I Can Count on You. The email itself asked people to contribute to “my campaign” which was no more specific than that. We think he’s running for Queens Borough President.
