Advertiser alert: we have early, early deadlines the weeks of Christmas and New Year’s. We’re publishing and delivering as usual on Thursday (December 26 and January 2) but all ads must be in by MONDAY (December 23 and December 30) for those weeks and must be in by NOON.

The Police Commissioner, the top guy, announced that it was an accident. We’re talking about the razor blade that fell into a cop’s sandwich at Bon Appetit, the deli on Beach 129th Street. Some people on Facebook weren’t convinced and maintained it was a malicious act. Come on, it was an accident. If this were a crime, it wouldn’t take a detective to figure out who did it. But, ok, we won’t blame anyone for peeking inside a sandwich from now on.

Chuck Schumer is busy in Washington these days, but he gets back and forth to New York enough that he’s often reminded how planes have become cattle cars. He’s pushing the FAA to study whether to mandate airlines to provide more leg room and seat width for the flying public. Anybody who has flown recently wouldn’t argue with this. While you’re at it, Chuck, ask them why when you fly in the emergency row, they ask you if you will assist in an emergency and then charge you extra for the privilege? The FAA considers emergency rows a safety issue with various requirements but the airlines see these as premium seats. They get you anyway they can.

If you were wondering what all the mess was in Far Rockaway on Beach 19th Street and Seagirt Boulevard on Tuesday, it was a water main break. Many residents and businesses had to deal with very low water pressure. If you were wondering why at least a half dozen cop cars were speeding along Beach Channel in Rockaway Park on Tuesday, they were rushing to a “shots fired” call on Beach 123rd Street, only to find out it was a car backfiring.

Many people have driven past Beach Channel and Beach 141st Street assuming that was park land in front of some homes that face Cronston Avenue. There’s now a green construction fence and that’s a likely sign that new houses will go up on the lot that is approximately 240 x 100. It’s zoned for one-family homes, so we think there’s just room for two. There is other property in the area that is owned by the National Park Service, but they’re not even aware (until we told them). Parcels around Beach 146th through Beach 149th along Beach Channel are listed on City tax maps as belonging to NPS. When we asked them about those lots, they claimed they don’t own property past Beach 149th. Well, NPS is wrong or the City tax map is wrong.

Well, Classics To Go is gone. The food truck at 114-04 Beach Channel Drive probably got started too late in the year to make a go of it. Too bad. The double burgers, hot dogs, tacos, and sausage and peppers sold at 1985 prices were a big hit with its small but loyal following. We hear the truck is just rolling across the street to the Farmers Market on Beach 116th and BCD, but we don’t know if the menu is making the trip.
