Sorry for the late Valentine’s idea, but here’s one you might think about as a last-minute thing to do. Kingsborough Community College is presenting The Jazz at the Lighthouse series, which presents intimate jazz performances in a modern lighthouse, featuring picturesque floor-to-ceiling views of the sea. Enjoy jazz, complete with wine and cheese in a relaxed nightclub setting. Tickets: $42/$47 (includes wine and cheese). Go to: onstageatkingsborough.org/ for more info and tickets.

Our condolences go out to the friends and family of Joseph Otton. The longtime accountant, who has an office on Beach 116th Street, died on February 10. A wake will be held at O’Connor’s on Friday, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 15 at St. Francis de Sales.

Another sad note to report: Geraldine Chapey has died. The one-time Democratic District Leader, City Council candidate, Wave columnist, and teacher will be waked at O'Connor's on Monday, February 17 (2-4, 7-9 p.m.) and the funeral will be Tuesday, February 18, 9:45 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales.

Last week we reported that a number of buildings are for sale on Beach 116th Street (the buildings that house Rockaway Food Mart, JKS Printing, Job Lot, Kings Pharmacy, and Sweet 116) and are being sold together with an asking price of $5,250,000. Now, we see these properties are being offered through an online auction at Ten-x.com. The starting bid is $1.6 mil and the auction takes place March 9-11. This sale is for the property, not the businesses.

RISE, formerly known as the Rockaway Waterfront Alliance, received $100,000 to go toward its “Shore Corps,” an Open Space Green Stewards Youth Internship and Workforce Development Program. The program provides internships to 90 low-income young people between ages 14 and 18. Lots of good stuff is done at RISE and such grants go a long way in helping. Congrats.

There’s a bargain so good that Bette Midler tweeted about it this week: “For $2.75, you can take a ferry all the way to the Rockaways!! Who knew? I just saw this PRISTINE fleet all over the East River and I thought I would flat out cry, it is so beautiful. You can go nearly anywhere! #TOURISTSLISTENUPNYC”

Here’s another reminder we are at the mercy of bureaucrats. The Army Corps’ plan to provide beach protection (jetties) is sitting at the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). The OMB website says its “mission is to assist the President in meeting his policy, budget, management and regulatory objectives.” The Corps and Chuck Schumer’s office didn’t offer much but suggested we’d hear “soon.”
