It’s May 14. Know what that means? Summer parking regulations take effect TONIGHT at 12:01. For those with weekend rules, make sure to move your cars Friday night.

Next week is normally, normally, the time when the Parks Commissioner or the Mayor comes to Rockaway on the Friday before Memorial Day to declare the beaches open. Not this year. The day will come and go like a lot of others recently. There is a chance the TOP 30 Photos from this year’s Rockaway Times Photo Contest will be placed on the boardwalk railings, to at least pay some homage to the beach season, but until they are actually posted, we won’t be sure. Keep an eye out at Beach 95th for the fabulous photos.

Graduation for students just won’t be the same this year but you can show your love by taking out an ad in The Rockaway Times. You send us the photo of the new graduate, his or her name and school and we’ll do the rest. We’ll make up a nice ad and publish it in The Rockaway Times. Email us for rates:  This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.  Seems like a nice gift. They flip through the paper and there they are. In the paper for all the world to see. Congrats to all the grads!

Liz Hanna, doing so much good community work, was profiled in last week’s Rockaway Times. When Matt McLean read the story, he suggested Liz be named Grand Marshal (not deputy grand marshal!) of the Rockaway St. Patrick’s Day Parade next year. Great idea! Mike Benn, are you listening?

The planned rebate for all Queens residents on the Cross Bay Bridge, which was supposed to start this spring, has been delayed by the MTA because of the revenue crunch caused by the severe drop in transit ridership due to the pandemic. This does not currently impact the longtime rebate for Rockaway residents.

Governor Cuomo promoted the idea of doctors and nurses coming to New York to help in the crisis, but these out-of-state heroes recently learned they will be paying New York State income tax. Well, if there’s a spike and such healthcare workers are needed again, we bet some will say, sure, but pay us more money to come if you’re going to tax us.

The New York Times reported that Cuomo “did not alert City Hall about reopening metrics before he detailed them publicly, though the benchmarks could determine the city’s near future.” Cuomo has gotten great praise for leadership. He can’t tell the mayor of New York City what his plan is? That’s leadership? Sometime Cuomo is so bad he makes us defend de Blasio!

Not sure what the real estate market is these days but an owner of an oceanfront building in Far Rockaway just listed his place for Seventy Million dollars.
