The New York Times has a donor-by-zip-code tool which allows you to zoom in on every zip code in the country and find out how many people in each zip donated to the Trump or Biden campaigns. As we went to press, 898 people in Rockaway had donated to Biden; 617 to Trump. The peninsula zip code breakdown is as follows: In 11697, Trump tops Biden 100-42. In 11694, Biden has a slight edge, 253-233. Biden leads in 11693, 123-81. In 11692, Biden has a 183-42 advantage and in 11691 Biden is out in front by a tally of 297-157.

The long, long lines of early voters are at once heartening and a bit maddening. It’s remarkable that so many people take the right to vote so seriously that waiting in lines for hours (hours!) did not deter them. But come on!  This is 2020—twenty years since hanging chads in Florida. States must do a better job of making voting easier. Making voting hard doesn’t make it more legitimate. You can take money out of an ATM. You can send money via Venmo. If you can trust money transactions you should be able to vote just as easily and with just as much confidence.

Not that it’s a cure but it’s a help. Early voting hours have been extended. Friday, October 30 (7 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday October 31, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday November 1, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Rockaway early voting takes place at the YMCA on Beach 73rd Street.

Harold Cornell, who was the President of the Rockaway Museum, a great supporter of all local arts, and just a very nice man, died this past week. He’ll be missed by many.

Two weeks in a row, we posted a photo of two ladies standing on a corner in Winslow, Arizona and two weeks in a row we used the term flatbed board instead of Ford. We’d like to say it was a typo but….Kevin Boyle admitted it was a misheard lyric, like there’s a bathroom on the right (there’s a bad moon on the rise).
