The huge voter turnout really underscores the value of early voting and mail-in ballots. Not everyone can get to the polls on a Tuesday in November. If you voted by Absentee Ballot, you can check online to track its status: go to nycabsentee.com/tracking/track-by-voter-info

Well, we’re not sure how today is but according to a recent survey, more than half of Americans believed November 3 would be the most stressful day of their lives. The same poll said 67% of respondents just want 2020 to end already. We’re wondering what those other 33% are thinking!

You’ve probably seen “Hotel Impossible” on the Travel Channel which is hosted by local Anthony Melchiorri. Although the show no longer airs, Melchiorri filmed a rave for The Rockaway Hotel. You can find it on his Facebook page. And while you’re at it, check out his podcast, No Vacancy Live.

Just a heads up, if you missed this: Under a new law, all car passengers in New York state must wear seat belts while riding in the back seat. Even adults. And even in Ubers.

The New York City Police Department appointed its first female Chief of Patrol Thursday, Juanita Holmes, last week. Holmes began her career in 1987 at the 101st Precinct and later worked in the 100th as well. Her sister, Janice Holmes, was the Commanding Officer at the 100th just a few years ago.

Nassau County hasn’t had any kind of worrisome Covid spike even though restaurants have been allowed 50 percent capacity for months. In New York City, where infection rates remain low, restaurants are still forced to abide by a 25 percent capacity. Cuomo indicated November 1 as a target date to increase capacity but that came and went. The small businesses need to plan and workers need work.

Former HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan is running for Mayor and got on an introductory zoom call last week with cross section of Rockaway folks. He’s a smart, engaging guy but he’s currently got thirteen other declared candidates (so far!) to contend with.

It’s a shame St. Camillus School and others closed pre-Covid because enrollment has shot up at many Catholic schools as parents frustrated with the way NYC is handling remote learning and other matters have looked to Catholic and private school as options.

Don’t have your dinner spoiled. According to District Attorney Melinda Katz, there has been an increase in jump-in vehicle thefts in Queens County. Cars left running or unattended are most at risk, especially during food pick-ups.

The Show Will Go On. We don’t know what kind of festivities there will be but we know The Little North Pole will brighten the neighborhood. Joe Mure and some very helpful elves will be hard at work putting up the amazing display this weekend.
