Pico Pleases

Dear Editor:

Just wanted to give a shout out to Pico for being so accommodating. We went there recently with a friend who has celiac disease and they went above and beyond to make her comfortable. They were so knowledgeable about what was safe for her to eat and they offered substitutions for things that weren't. Thanks Chris, Tim and all the others at Pico who took such good care of us.

Dear Editor:

Thank you, Rockaway Times for covering the Hope for Warriors weekend from July 12-15, 2018. Your article accompanied by photos of the Warriors painted a picture of how much fun our over 60 guest veterans and their families had, especially with the water sports. As the co-coordinator of the Rockaway Beach/Breezy Point AmpSurf Chapter (one of only three chapters in the U.S.), I can say unequivocally, after being involved with this program for 13 years, that this was our best event ever! Over the span of two days, the vets and their families enjoyed beautiful sunshine and gentle breezes along with a very accommodating surf. For many, it was the first opportunity to be in the ocean and experience the joy of surfing and the healing power of the ocean. The enthusiasm and stoke was extremely high for both the guests as well as our volunteers.

Please note that AmpSurf will be hosting another surf clinic on Saturday, July 28 at Beach 67th Street from 9 a.m. to noon. The Rockaway Beach Special Athletes will be our guests. We will also have another event on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at Beach 67th Street from 9 a.m. to noon for Special Athletes and local Veterans. Information and registration can be found on our website, www.AmpSurf.org. I can be reached locally by phone or text at (917) 734-8711.

Waist Not

Dear Editor:

I was born and raised here in Rockaway (and have never left!), and just wanted to drop a note to let you know about my sacrifice for my beloved hometown. I have purchased a treadmill, 10lb. dumbbells and a drum kit, all in an effort to exercise to lose some weight and a couple of inches off my waist (which ain't easy at 65 years old). I sweat and I hurt and nothing seems to be working!

I wonder if it may have something to do with the fact that I am married to the woman who writes your Recipe Swap column (Sharon Feldman)? She cooks these amazing meals every night, and I am her guinea pig to test them on. Do you think this may have something to do with my inability to drop a few pounds? I totally do ... so with all that being said, THIS is my SACRIFICE for Rockaway and I will faithfully carry out my duties for my fellow Rockaway neighbors at the expense of my waistline.

Honey ... what's for dinner tonight ....???

Bike Bull

Dear Editor:

Whether you love bike sharing or hate it, why isn't anyone asking the obvious question, why the hell is the City even involved?
