Skillet Sausage, Cabbage and Sweet Potato

Serves: 4


  • 1 small head of cabbage sliced into ribbons
  • 1 large sweet onion, chopped
  • 3-4 large garlic, chopped finely
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound smoked turkey sausage, cut into ½” circles
  • 1 large sweet potato, diced in ¼” slices or chopped into small bite size pieces
  • 1 can Rotel Original Diced Tomatoes (or 1 can petit tomatoes)
  • 1/3 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon pepper
  • ½ teaspoon brown sugar
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons smoked paprika



Heat pan and add the butter and oil. Make sure the pan is hot. Then add onion and garlic. Sauté until translucent and garlic fragrant. Add the sausage to brown. Then and potatoes. Season with the salt, pepper and brown sugar. Add the potatoes and mix again.

Add the sliced cabbage and the smoked paprika and mix to incorporate. Stir all ingredients together. Cover and simmer until the cabbage softens to your liking and the potatoes are soft.
