Dear Editor,
Dr. Galvin’s column on Omega three fish oil was very interesting and thought provoking.
After suffering a heart attack many years ago, my cardiologist started me on fish oil supplements because of their effect on triglycerides and cholesterol but, even more importantly, because fish oil had been shown to reduce plaque within arteries and thus reduce the possibility of strokes and heart attacks. This fact was reiterated in the December 2020 Harvard Heart Letter which cited a European study in which the arteries were visualized.
So, while the jury may be out concerning the effect of fish oil on one’s mortality, there is evidence that it does, indeed, have a beneficial effect. And I, personally, am living proof.
