The Song in your Heart

Be Well Be Happy

Our heart is at the center of our being human. In the heart is where our deepest thoughts, intuitions, emotions and decisions find their source. We often fail to know our hidden centers and so we live and die without knowing who we really are. Have you ever looked into the mirror and asked yourself, “who am I?”

You are not the body, you are not your mind, you are not your title such as wife, husband, mother, father, sister, brother, friend, etc.  You are so much more. This past weekend, I picked up one my favorite books, “How, Then, Shall We Live” by Wayne Muller. The first question he asked was, who am I? The past few months have given us all time to get to know ourselves and perhaps work on some positive changes in our life. The here and now is real. This moment in time will never come again.

How can we, living in today’s society, find our quiet center, leading to the song in your heart? Is it possible in New York City to be relaxed and calm? I think it is a challenge but most certainly possible. We live in one of the greatest cities although these days we have most definitely loss control of a peaceful society.

Our struggles are real to find peace and calm. The only way I can find the calm amid the storm is to close my eyes to my surroundings. Focus on a mantra and my breath. Breathing in, I am calm, breathing out, I am at peace. It works every time for me so I repeat it often. Then I open my eyes to the beauty in front of me. If I were an artist, I would paint a picture; if I were a photographer, I would take a picture; if I am me, I would breathe it all in. My song is by the ocean. I have always gone to the water for comfort and peace. Water is healing and we are blessed to live in this community. Yes, we are a beautiful community. I am so grateful for my parents bringing us to Rockaway Beach for summer vacations. This summer, many people have visited Rockaway Beach and truly found a source of harmony in this chaotic world.

What is your song? Are you afraid to be who you were meant to be? Is there something or someone holding you back? Finding your song is finding your love with yourself. You don’t have to change your life, you just have to be with yourself. You are perfect just the way you are. You are enough and your heart is your guide. The heart is a masterpiece. It has a subtle energy that vibrates loudly. We feel and hear the soft beat but it is an instrument that plays our life’s song. Listen, feel and be with yourself.

Mary Oliver: “Tell me, what else should I have done? Doesn’t everything die at last, and too soon? Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?” Life is brief, even if we live to 100 years old. May you be happy, be content and be healthy. God has been very good to me and I wish you the same.
