It was yet another exciting week in Rockaway Little League Boys’ Baseball and Girls’ Softball. We start with our youngest competitive division, Peewee Senior Boys’ playing Zwerling Ophthalmology Orioles, winning over Walsh Management Angels in their Saturday high-scoring game of 18-12. Bats sure were flying on Sunday and lots of fun was had by all.

Rockaway Midshipmen Fearless Blue Jays had a busy week as Tuesday’s game ended in a 6-6 tie versus Zwerling Ophthalmology Orioles. This was followed by Friday’s 13-6 win over A.O.H. Division 21 Athletics.

It was awesome to see great sportsmanship on display as Servpro of North West Brooklyn Pirates knocked off ABLE Discovery Center for Children’s Diamondbacks on Sunday. Also on Sunday, A.O.H. Division 21’s Athletics enjoyed their win over KB Security Rockies scoring 5-2.

In Minor Boys' action, Empire Unlimited Angels won their Sunday game over Bartolli Chiropractic Athletics, but don’t fret, as the Athletics won two of their three games this week. They beat American Legion Post #272 Cardinals on Tuesday, and won again on Saturday against the Allstate Rockaway Park Dodgers. Props to the American Legion Post #272 Cardinals, who on Friday responded with a win versus Storage Fox Diamondbacks. Belle Harbor Yacht Club Rockies enjoyed a great weekend of play, enjoying their Saturday win over Curran’s Meats Cubs in a score of 11-7, and a Sunday tied game with Class Act Photo Orioles, the game ending in 5-5.

Speaking of game-ending ties, Girls’ Minor Softball—Rockaway WISH Clippers and Walsh Property Eagles finished in a 7-7 tie. Can’t wait to see these teams face each other again. In other Girls' Minor games, Elegante Restaurant and Pizzeria Firebirds enjoyed their win over the Laquilla Group Hornets scoring 7-2.

In Major Girls’ Softball, the Graybeards Blazers enjoyed their Saturday 11-1 win over the Lola Star Pioneers. There was quite a bit of excitement in our mid-morning Saturday game, as the Knights of Columbus Wildcats pulled off a nail-biting one-run victory over Lana’s Loft Bobcats. There was spectacular pitching from Carly Intrabartolo, coming in to relieve at the fifth inning with bases loaded to retire the side. This was followed by strong hitting with a bases-loaded clearing triple by Danielle Tansey. Big hits by Tamara McNeill and Kayla LaManti helped take a one-run lead into the sixth inning followed by Carly Intrabartolo closing out the game with strong defensive plays by Peyton Kalisak, Sofia Knoetgen, and Abby Tubridy.

In the Major Boys’ Division, Currans Meats Cubs had an exciting 11-7 Tuesday win over the DriveSafe Auto Center Orioles. Delmar Pizza Reds had a super week winning both their games this week, winning 15-8 on Thursday versus L. Mahoney Real Estate Rockies and again on Saturday 14-5 versus Curran’s Meats Cubs. While Saturday’s game of Denis S. O’Connor Giants versus DriveSafe Auto Center Orioles could have ended in an Orioles’ forfeit, the boys instead played the game for just fun. In a show of great sportsmanship, the Giant’s Logan Kase played catcher for both teams.
