In 1972, Mary Ellen Murray moved to Belle Harbor. In 1978, Mrs. Murray took the position as a New York City Police Department school crossing guard on the corner of Beach 134th Street and Cronston Avenue and has been on the same corner, protecting the students of P.S. 114, ever since. In July, the mother of seven and grandmother of 12, will celebrate her 40th anniversary. “These bones have more Vitamin D than they need,” she said jokingly.
