Meeks Wins Primary in Landslide

Congratulations to Congressman Gregory Meeks, who won his Democratic Primary election by a landslide.

On Tuesday, June 26, thousands hit the pools to cast their vote in the Federal Democratic Primary. In District 5, Meeks’ area, the congressman came on top with the New York State Board of Elections saying he won by nearly 81 percent or nearly 10,000 votes. His challenger, detective Carl Achille, took nearly 10 percent of the vote, while his other challenger, entrepreneur Mizan Choudury, nabbed nearly nine percent. About 50 voters chose to write in their own candidate.

"I am incredibly grateful to the voters of New York’s 5th Congressional District for the honor to continue serving our community, both at home and in Washington. This is a privilege and responsibility I never take for granted. Whether it is housing and infrastructure, immigration and jobs, or resiliency of our beaches and bay, I will make sure the people of the 5th district have a voice on all issues in DC. I will continue working tirelessly to serve as a check on the destructive policies of the Trump administration, and work to find constructive solutions for my constituents."

Meeks will run unopposed in the November election.
