Friday night sure was thrilling as the Thrilla in Camilla went down, with several cops and firefighters boxing it out for a great cause for veterans.

On Friday, July 13, hundreds headed to St. Camillus to watch FDNY Bravest Boxing take on the London Metro Police, plus a grudge match between locals, to raise money for Building Homes for Heroes (BHFH).

Organizers say they were able to present a check for $30,000 collected from last year’s event, to the organization that builds mortgage-free homes for wounded veterans that need special accommodations. The sponsors alone, including several local businesses, raised $10,000 and the night’s 50/50 winner donated her winnings of $5,400 back to the cause. U.S. Army Sgt. John DiRaimo and U.S. Marine Corps 1st Lt. James Byler, who’ve both received homes from BHFH, were on hand to receive all of the funds to give to the organization, as well as FDNY Ret. Capt Jimmy Hayhurst, a volunteer for the organization, who headed his staff collecting the 50/50 for the night.

While there were many great matches, the event of the evening was the grudge match between Ryan MacNamara and Danny Quinn. Quinn came on top with a TKO in the second round. For more information about the rest of the results, head to FDNYBoxing.com
