From The Rockaway Waterfront Alliance Community Health Day

Summer is here and in full swing — the Rockaway Waterfront Alliance's (RWA)  healthiest time of the year! On Saturday, August 4, RWA will be hosting our first Community Health Day to address the physical and mental health needs of the Rockaway community. Join us under the El, in our garden, and inside the RISE Building! We will be hosting engaging workshops, talks, activities, and screenings. Our goal is to provide information and services regarding individual- and group-led health care. The Rockaway community would greatly benefit from increasing its awareness of chronic illness and available sources of support, information, and health.

Local groups will lead sessions in zumba, tai chi, meditation, and yoga. Speakers will lead talks regarding choosing the right therapist, race and mental health discrimination, and more! There will be free screenings for depression and blood pressure. RWA students will also lead arts and craft activities for any who wish to participate. Children are always welcome! There will also be free food and other refreshments available for everyone who comes to our event!

Surprise prizes are in store at the event. Participating in activities and talking to tablers will earn event-goers stickers for their 'Health Passport.' Those that fill up their passports will be eligible for prizes at the end of the day!

Join us at the RISE Building, located at 58-03 Rockaway Beach Blvd, on Saturday, August 4, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for an educational and fun-filled day!

This event is made possible by the TCNY 2020 Mental Health Day, the NQ PPS Community Health Forum, and the NYC DOT Weekend Walks Initiative.
