St. Francis de Sales (SFDS) Rookie boys kicked off the start of their CYO soccer season with a win against Our Lady of Hope in a 2-1 nail biter on Saturday, September 9 at home.
Despite both teams being short of players due to the four-day holiday weekend, as well as a variety of injuries, both teams came out fighting, looking to start their season off on the right path. The SFDS defense of Michael Nestor, Teddy Ostrander, and Kevin Watters held strong, allowing for only seven shots on goal for the whole game. Goalkeeper Matt Bambury had a spectacular game, saving six of those shots.
The first goal was scored in the first half of play by midfielder Connor Monahan, with an assist by Matt Stack. Midfielder Matthew Schneider kept the ball moving forward, allowing the forwards of Ian Erhard, Ahmed Hakim, and Matty Martin to set up SFDS' winning goal, which was scored by Matt Stack, who had an assist from Joseph O'Sullivan with only 15 seconds left to play.
Hoping to keep their momentum, SFDS squares off against Our Lady of Grace and St. Patrick's this weekend.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
