Enjoy Community Thanksgiving Meals This Weekend

Thanksgiving is right around the corner and this year, no one will go hungry. This weekend, there will be several early community Thanksgiving dinners around town for all, especially those that may not be able to have a meal on Thanksgiving Day. There are also opportunities to help out at these events to make them extra special.

On Saturday, November 17, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., is the Community Thanksgiving Lunch sponsored by Queens Law Associates and Channel View School for Research (CVSR) PTA, staff and students. The event will be held at CVSR (100-00 Beach Channel Drive) and all are welcome to enjoy a meal. On the menu will be turkey, stuffing, greens, macaroni and cheese, salads and desserts, generously donated by the Bungalow Bar, Fat Cardinal Provisions, Cuisine by Claudette, The World of She, plus community members who have generously offered to donate dishes. Anyone else who wants to cook for the event is encouraged to contact Marissa Bernowitz on Facebook or by email at This email address is being protected from spambots. CVSR students and staff will be volunteering to serve, but others are welcome to help in two-hour shifts throughout the event and with setup starting at 10 a.m. Contact Marissa for more details.

Also on Saturday, November 17, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., the Rockaway Waterfront Alliance is hosting a free Rockaway Thanksgiving Feast at the RISE Center (58-03 Rockaway Beach Blvd). As a way to give thanks to the community, all are welcome to enjoy a hot Thanksgiving meal, but guests must RSVP by sending an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. In Broad Channel, on Sunday, November 18, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., all are welcome to a community Thanksgiving Dinner at Christ Presbyterian Church by the Sea (102 Noel Road). Enjoy a dinner featuring turkey, mashed potatoes, corn, string beans, gravy, cranberry sauce, desserts, coffee and tea. Note that this is a paid event ($20 for adults, $10 for children), but it’s for a good cause. Christ Presbyterian has been dealt with some financial hardships and is at risk of closing. In order to raise funds for the church, this event will include a raffle for two tickets to see Aladdin on Broadway on December 2, plus a 50/50. For information on buying raffle tickets ($10), call Donny at 347-703-3600 or Joyce at 718-479-3580. The winner will be picked at the community dinner. Anyone interested in volunteering to help before, after or during the dinner, is encouraged to contact Margaret Howard Wagner on Facebook.

In the spirit of helping Christ Presbyterian, the Broad Channel Volunteer Fire Department is also hosting Turkey Karaoke on Saturday, November 17, starting at 8 p.m. at Grassy Point Bar (18-02 Cross Bay Blvd.). A $10 cover goes toward helping the church and gets you a night of karaoke, drink specials and a chance to enter a raffle to win Thanksgiving dinner supplies for 10 people.
