Beach 94th and 95th, approaching the Cross Bay Brige, are about to get safer for drivers, pedestrians and bikers alike. The NYC Department of Transportation is set to begin safety improvements at the intersection of Beach Channel Drive and Beach 94th Street, and Rockaway Freeway and Beach 95th Street, plus creating safe bike connections from the bridge to the beach. The project, approved by Community Board 14, begins this month.
The project includes expanding pedestrian space, reconstructing sidewalks and adding a new crosswalk at Beach 95th and Rockaway Freeway; installing a new traffic signal, crosswalks and a bike crossing at Beach Channel Drive and Beach 94th Street; installing a contraflow bike lane on Beach 92nd Street from Beach Channel Drive to Rockaway Freeway; and installing a curbside bike lane on Rockaway Freeway from Beach 92nd to Beach 94th Street.
