On Friday, November 30, the Joseph P. Addabbo Family Health Center held a “Celebration of Life” to commemorate World AIDS Day. Many patients and employees gathered in the lobby to hear a motivational speaker provided by Merck Pharmaceuticals.
“I have been HIV positive for 28 years,” speaker Michelle Lopez said. “Since my diagnosis, I have devoted myself to HIV/AIDS outreach to share my experiences and knowledge - how you can contract it, treat it and successfully live life with it. I have taken charge of my life and I hope to inspire others to do the same. There have been many positive changes during recent years both in how the disease is medically treated and how society perceives those with the disease.”
This year’s World AIDS Day theme is “Know Your Status” and Northwell Health provided a van for free HIV/AIDS testing in addition to the free testing services provided daily at the Joseph P. Addabbo Family Health Center. “Knowledge, emotional support and comprehensive medical treatment are critically important to our patients who are dealing with HIV/AIDS and we have a staff who is very dedicated to that mission,” said Dr. Marjorie J. Hill, CEO. “We do everything we can do to spread awareness, knowledge, the importance of being tested and knowing your status.”BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
