Crime Spree

The week leading up to Christmas was marred with some horrific crimes in Far Rockaway, including a rape and a murder.

Early Sunday morning, December 18, police responded to a call of a sexual assault around Bayport Place and Augustina Avenue in Far Rockaway, according to ABC7. The call was received at around 4:30 a.m. A local 44-year-old woman was walking home when she was pushed to the ground and raped by a suspect who later fled the scene. The woman was taken to the hospital.

More horrific news occurred later Sunday morning when a body was discovered by a passerby in Bayswater Point State Park just before noon. The body appeared to be that of a man in his twenties. He was found only wearing socks and underwear and his body showed signs of trauma. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death of the young man. His death remains under investigation, and no arrests have been made, but the death has been ruled a homicide.
