Far Rock School To Be Ranamed For Fallen Officer

Rockaway won’t forget Det. Randolph Holder Jr. During a Community Education Council 27 meeting on Monday, January 28, an official decision was made to rename Far Rockaway's P.S. 253Q, The Randolph Holder School for Social Justice.

Holder, an NYPD officer, was killed in the line of duty on October 20, 2015. He was shot in the head while chasing a suspect along the FDR Drive promenade after responding to a report of gang-related gunshots in East Harlem.

The immigrant from Guyana had been living in Far Rockaway with his parents. In August 2017, the intersection at Briar Place and Collier Avenue, near Holder’s parents’ home, was renamed Detective Randolph Holder Way in memory of the officer.

Now, with the blessings of the Holder family and fellow members of the NYPD, P.S. 253Q in Far Rockaway will also bear the officer’s name as The Randolph Holder School for Social Justice.
