Valentine’s Day is next Thursday, February 14, and starting this weekend, there’s much to do to share the love. From shopping, dining, decadent desserts, gift-buying and even craft-making — The Rockaway Times dishes up the ultimate guide to your Valentine’s Day Rockaway-style!

This Saturday, February 9 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge hosts a heartfelt Bee Mine Valentine Station. All ages are welcome to come on down and create their own Jamaica Bay nature-inspired valentines.

Also, on Saturday, February 9, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., bring your children to The Swellife. They’ll get creative by making their own Valentine’s Day gift by painting white coffee mugs. The mugs are just $15 each, and parents will be given special instructions on how to preserve their children’s masterpieces.

Then on Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m., you definitely don’t want to miss Valentine’s Karaoke at the VFW Post 260 in Broad Channel. Come on down and sing your heart out with your lover, best buds and even the entire family. Tracy Obolsky of Rockaway Beach Bakery (RBB) says she has been feverishly planning her Valentine’s special menu for weeks, and customers are in for an extra special sweet surprise. The local bakery will be dishing up chocolate-covered long stem colossal strawberries, heart-shaped cookies, brownies, chocolate vegan truffles, red velvet cupcakes, mini bags of meringue kisses, and even ‘conversational’ cookies with statements like: “You Stink,” and “Netflix and Chill.” Plus they’ll have chocolate-glazed cheese cakes for two, ornately decorated with edible gold.
