The years may pass but the crowd never thins, showing that hometown hero, Dylan Smith, will never be forgotten.
The community came out strong on a beautiful Sunday evening for the 7th Annual Dylan Smith Paddle Out. Dozens of surfers, friends and neighbors joined the Smith family on Beach 86th Street to remember the life of Dylan Smith, a surfer and lifeguard, who is known for rescuing several neighbors with his surfboard on the night of Hurricane Sandy. Smith tragically died just about two months later while surfing in Puerto Rico. He was 23.
Each year, many gather to remember Dylan with a paddle out. The event also serves as a fundraiser for FACES (Finding a Cure for Epilepsy and Seizures).
