It’s always a good day to celebrate Jamaica Bay, but Saturday, July 13 will be a whole day dedicated to it with the Jamaica Bay Festival on City of Water Day.
The Jamaica Bay-Rockaway Parks Conservancy and the American Littoral Society Northeast Chapter are hosting this all-day fun fest dedicated to utilizing, learning about and celebrating all that Jamaica Bay has to offer.
The Jamaica Bay Festival celebrates those who share our vision to champion the spirit of the Jamaica Bay community, the unparalleled opportunities and the natural beauty of this urban tidal estuary. Participants can enjoy free kayaking, sailing, canoeing, paddle boarding, fishing, hiking, bird-watching, arts and crafts, and more. For a full list of activities and events, visit www.jamaicabayfestival.com.
The Festival is sponsored by the Jamaica Bay-Rockaway Parks Conservancy and the American Littoral Society, with support from The Waterfront Alliance, New York-New Jersey Harbor & Estuary Program and Hudson River Foundation.
The main headquarters for the festival will be the Rockaway Ferry Landing on Beach 108th Street, but the activities will be scattered across various areas of Jamaica Bay in both Brooklyn and Queens. Want to learn how to fish? Head to Bayswater Park on Bay 32nd at 11 a.m. How about paddling or kayaking? From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., head to Bay Breeze Park on Beach 88th Street. For a sunset sail, head to Marina 59, but call 646-522-3802 in advance, as space is limited. No matter what, this weekend, the bay is your oyster!BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
