Cheers for  Essential Workers

Have you heard the noise at 7 p.m.?  You’re not hearing things. Every night at 7 p.m., all New Yorkers are encouraged to cheer, applaud, bang pots, play music or make whatever noise they can to show appreciation for all those working on the frontlines and other essential workers. If they’re not already, encourage your neighbors to join the fun and let our heroes hear you loud and clear!

 

Get Tested

Think you might have COVID-19? The Joseph P.

Addabbo Family Health Center is now offering testing at 1288 Central Ave. Testing takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m.

to 2 p.m. for the general public. Senior citizens can get

tested on Mondays from noon until 3 p.m.

Assembly Candidates Forum

The NY State Assembly election is still set for June 23. Get to know who’s running and learn where they stand on certain issues with this virtual candidate forum sponsored by the Rockaway Youth Task Force.

Free Counseling

There’s no doubt these are trying times and taking care of your mental health is just as important as physical health. To help make it easier, NurtureU Wellness is collaborating with local professionals to offer some free counseling services. On Thursdays throughout the month of May, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Dr. Mary Andrews, a clinical psychologist, is offering complimentary therapeutic services to all first responders and health care professionals. Drag Goes Home School

Local drag queens Ginger Ladd and Dreamabelle, known together as the Rockaway Babes, can’t perform around town due to coronavirus shutting down nightlife, so they’ve brought their shows to those at home. Every Sunday at 8 p.m., tune in to @TheGingerLadd on Instagram Live for dance performances, lip syncing, laughs and good vibes.
