If you graduated from Far Rockaway High School in the 1980s or 90s, groups of alumni are looking for you.

In 2022, Far Rockaway High School will be 125 year old. Beginning in 1897, Far Rockaway was the only high school on the Rockaway Peninsula until Beach Channel High School was built. The FRHS 125th Organizing Committee is forming a team of interested alumni to work on that special event. We are looking for a few alumni from the ‘80s and ‘90s and through 2011 to join the organizing committee who are putting together a special event.

Far Rockaway High School opened with 19 students and until the 1919-1920 school year, was housed within P.S, 39 which was demolished, and a new school replaced it and it became P.S. 53. In 1929, FRHS moved to the current building on 25th Street. Most children in the Rockaways attended Far Rockaway High School and have fond remembrances (mostly good) of their years there.

You might remember being on the football team, basketball team, tennis team, cheerleaders, majorettes, the rifle club and many more activities. The girls having to wear those horrible gym suits, having to swim in the chlorinated pool, one of your favorite teachers or your least favorite. In any event, your remembrances and help are needed a we go forward to 125 years.

If you would like to participate in the planning of this wonderful event and you graduated in the ‘80s or ‘90s, please contact any of the following people for further information.
