Normally this page would be full of events and happenings around town. With Coronavirus causing most, if not all events and meetings to be canceled, we can only list the events taking place remotely, or with social distancing in mind.


101 Pct Community Safety Meeting

The NYPD's 101st Precinct is hosting a roundtable community discussion on Thursday, June 25 at 6 p.m., at 1336 Central Avenue (Cogca Gym). Meet your 101 Pct community partners, executive officer and neighborhood coordination officers to discuss community safety. Wear a mask and maintain social distancing.


Rockaway Beach Cleanup

On Sunday, June 28 at 10 a.m., Marissa Scotto is hosting a beach cleanup that can be done on your own terms. She says, meet at Beach 149th and walk downtown, start on Beach 9th and walk uptown, or start wherever and end wherever. “Let's meet at Connolly's afterwards!” she said. Help pick up straws, bags, garbage and any litter left over to help keep the beach clean.

Discussing Community and Police

Speakers from the NYPD, Sen. James Sanders, Councilman Dovovan Richards and THOR President Lisa George will come together to discuss the community and police and how to move forward. The meeting will take place on Saturday, June 27 at 12 p.m. at Goldie Maple Academy (365 Beach 56th Street). All are welcome to join.


Get Tested

Think you might have COVID-19? The Joseph P. Addabbo Family Health Center is now offering testing at 1288 Central Ave. Testing takes place on Tuesdays from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the general public. Senior citizens can get tested on Mondays from noon until 3 p.m. Call 718-945-7150 to request an appointment. Two new testing centers have also opened in Far Rockaway. One is at the Sorrentino Recreation Center (18-48 Cornaga Avenue) and the other is at Beach 39th and Beach Channel Drive.


Emotional Support

St. John’s Episcopal Hospital is offering free virtual emotional support groups via Zoom in response to the COVID-19 crisis. They focus on different aspects of emotional support including coping with grief, loss, stress, and anxiety. To register for the free virtual support groups, contact the SJEH Wellness and Recovery Center at 718-869-5096, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 am - 5 p.m. Classes are available in English and Spanish, and Zoom details will be provided upon registration.
