Tradition continues on Beach 133rd. On Saturday, July 4, the block kicked off the holiday with their annual July 4th Parade.
From Rockaway Beach Boulevard to the beach wall, children from the block marched while singing patriotic songs to celebrate Independence Day.
At the beach wall, the flag was raised. According to neighbor Laurence Gray, this year the flag was raised “in honor and remembrance of our good friend, and neighbor Billy Hanson, who was lost in a tragic accident last October. Besides being a good neighbor and friend he was strong supporter of the Rockaway community and a great family man. Billy was an inspiration to us all and will always be remembered.”
The annual Beach 133rd July 4th Parade has been an annual tradition for at least nine years.
