Rockaway Shows Support for the NYPD

On Saturday, July 11, the Rockaway boardwalk was a sea of American and blue line flags as locals from Rockaway and Breezy Point gathered for a march to show support for the New York City Police Department.

The march kicked off on Beach 121st Street with the playing of the National Anthem. An estimate 3,000 people joined in for the march, which expanded for several blocks. Many held flags or signs, or wore shirts showing support for the police. On foot and bike, the marchers paraded down the boardwalk to the 100th Precinct, where they were met with a group of protestors supporting Black Lives Matter.

Throughout the march, no speeches were given at the event that was advertised as a “no political agenda” show of support for law enforcement.
