Free Food Fridge Comes to Arverne

A community fridge of free food is now available to those who need it.

Free food fridges are popping up across the city and country during the coronavirus pandemic. Now Rockaway has its own at 69-62 Almeda Avenue, outside of The Almeda Club. The fridge is available 24/7 and anyone is welcome to take what they need. The fridge is made possible by the Rockaway Mutual Aid and Support Network and others. There are also plans to build a pantry next to it for food that doesn’t need to be refrigerated.

All are welcome to contribute to the fridge, including restaurants, bakeries and delis that may have excess supplies. The Campaign Against Hunger recently helped stock the fridge as well as some local business owners. If you’d like to donate, reach out to the Rockaway Mutual Aid and Support Network by calling 732-645-2502 or emailing This email address is being protected from spambots.
