It’s time to get ‘reacquainted’ with Matt Kiss. After a long time in the making, local singer-songwriter Matt Kiss is ready to debut his latest EP, “Reacquainted.”
On Friday, July 24, Kiss will drop his newest five-song EP, giving music-lovers an overall look at the new direction Kiss has taken with his music. In 2012, Kiss debuted his first-ever EP, “Black Hound Sessions,” with an Americana/county vibe. Since then, he was working on another project around 2016, but not being satisfied with the outcome, he decided to shelve the project, reassess, reevaluate and go back to the drawing board as he discovered his true voice and the direction he wanted to take his music in that would be truly representative of him.
The result is “Reacquainted,” a smooth EP that is a vibe in itself, with a pop singer-songwriter feel, influenced with soul, R&B and a little bit of rock. Within the five songs, Kiss provides a little something for everyone as he pours his heart and soul into topics of heartbreak, to falling in love and dealing with things like anxiety.
Over the past few months, fans have gotten sneak peaks of the EP with songs like “Hurricane” and “Somebody Else’s Problem,” but they’ll get to hear three new jams, including Kiss’ personal favorite, the title track of the record, “Reacquainted.” Kiss says, “It’s a love song and I wrote it during a personal time while I was falling in love with my wife and when I realized I was in trouble. It’s really soulful and funky and while the entire EP is representative of me, that one is my favorite,” Kiss said.
“Reacquainted,” is a collaborative effort. Kiss worked with Malcolm Fong, who helped him produce and record the album at Fong Studios in Brooklyn. He also worked with pianist and keyboard player, Amos Ang on one track, “Quiet,” and Matt Lesman helped with the artwork and photography for the EP.
Kiss is excited for people to finally tune in to what he’s been working on. “It means a lot to me to finally release this. This is me creating music that really speaks to me and is as true to myself as I can be. I’m getting reacquainted with my audience and this is the start of something that will be a forward projection for me,” Kiss said.
“Reacquainted,” will be available on all digital music platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, Tidal, Amazon, for streaming or download on Friday. To keep up with Kiss, be sure to follow Matt Kiss on Facebook or MattKissMusic on Instagram.
