Santa sleighed through Rockaway and spread Christmas cheer throughout on Saturday, December 19. The 8th Annual Santa Sleigh Run was a big hit.
Christmas music blasted throughout Far Rockaway as the Santa sleigh made its way through town, giving kids a heads up that he would soon arrive. It was all part of MakeMyMotherProud’s annual Santa Sleigh Run. This event is usually organized by founder Lakia Echols, but as she’s deployed in Kuwait, Antoneke Weatherspoon, and a great group of volunteers held down the fort and made sure the kids of Rockaway got to see this tradition continue.
The Santa Sleigh Run was also made possible by Influence Active Wear, Lady Hawks, Dred Surfer Grill, Images by Salome, the NYPD 101st Precinct, Rock Safe Streets and donations made by the community. With this, Santa and his elves were able to give toys and goodies to every child who came out to the sleigh as it made stops at Redfern Cornerstone, Beach 26th, Beach 41st, Ocean Bay Cornerstone, Beach 71st, the Hammel Houses and Beach 116th Street. The NYPD’s 101st Precinct led the way to make sure the sleigh could arrive at each stop on time.
