Summer Shore Corps is RISE’s most popular teen program, providing experience for high school students to collaborate with local businesses and partner organizations to develop their team-building skills. Due to Covid-19, the Summer Shore Corps Program will be a combination of both hybrid of virtual and in-person programming.
Students in 9th-12th grade, who live in or attend school in and around the Rockaway peninsula, are eligible to apply. Students will work on projects with professionals in fields of environmental science, civic engagement, healthy food systems and community planning. If it is deemed safe to convene, students can opt, to take part in active outdoor recreation, in small groups, to gain a better appreciation of the natural resources of the Rockaway peninsula.
This year, due to Covid, all Summer Shore Corps students will receive a stipend for participation in the program. RISE is a College Access Research & Action (CARA) partner and provides additional college access support to high school and college students in the Shore Corps Program.
Expectations: Students in the summer cycle, must be available to participate three days/week (two virtual/ one optional, in person). Dates: Summer Cycle: July 5- August 13, 2021. Location (for in person events only): RISE Center, 58-03 Rockaway Beach Blvd, Rockaway.
