The 8th Annual Clare Droesch 3 on 3 By the Sea basketball tournament was once again a great success. 92 teams converged on the Fr. Grogan Memorial Schoolyard at St. Francis de Sales on Friday, August 27 to remember legendary hoop star Clare Droesch, and to honor her memory through competition. With rain cutting short the day, some games will now be played Wednesday, September 8.

All proceeds go to the Clare Droesch Scholarship Fund, administered by The Graybeards. The Droesch Fund supports scholarships at her alma maters, St Francis de Sales Catholic Academy, Christ the King High School, and Boston College, as well as providing assistance to Friends in Need.

The day began with play in the 3rd-5th grade age groups at 12:00. Next up at 2:00 was grades 6-8, though the 8th grade boys were shifted to the final slot due to some late entries in the younger ages. Play was skilled and spirited on eight baskets, with round robin format leading to championship games in each division. All players received short sleeve 3 on 3 tees with long sleeve tees for the champs. there was plenty of water and also pizza donated by Whit's End. 3 on 3 merchandise was on sale to help increase the proceeds as well as a 50/50 and raffles for two wooden flag sculptures created and donated by Joe Connolly and DVK Woodwork and a celebration at Jameson's followed after play was over.

Unfortunately, rain came as the final group of teams were getting ready to begin games so the tournament will resume and hopefully complete Wednesday, September 8 at 6 p.m. for the Men's and Women's Open divisions, Boys and Girls High School divisions, and the Boys 8th grade division.
