Recycle Old Cabinet Doors

If you’re remodeling your kitchen or know someone who is, don’t throw away the old cabinet doors. They are great for future DIYer projects. Here are a few ideas.

Childs desk:

By adding legs and a coat of paint you got a great little desk for a child.

Chalkboard:

Applying a coat of paint, then painting the inside panels with chalkboard paint, will give you a great chalkboard for quick notes.

Photo collage:

Paint the door, then using contact cement, add a fabric backing to the panels. Then use the contact cement to add photos to make a framed collage.

A serving tray:

A good coat of Rust-oleum paint and a handle on either end will make for a nice serving tray. For an added touch, paint the door two-toned or use stencils to add a design.

Wall art:

Give it a nice coat of paint to start off with. Add your favorite saying or some artificial flowers and create your own wall art.

Corkboard:

Once again, add a coat of paint. Then using contact cement, glue on corkboard material. For two panel doors, you can paint the second panel with chalkboard paint.

Magnetic board:

Hold your favorite recipes in place or leave notes for the kids with a magnetic board. Magnetic paint can be bought at most major home improvement stores and can be used as a primer, then topped off with a color of your choice.

Homemade shutters:

By carefully cutting out the panels and adding a fabric backing, you can easily make your own (indoor) window shutters to dress up any room.

Some of these projects are planned for future DIYer classes. To find out more about the classes or send me your ideas for future articles, email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
