There’s still time to march in the Poseidon Parade.  See page 16 for details. Oh, if you’re marching, try to have some music playing (Yellow Submarine or Under the Boardwalk, for instance). The parade could use some tunes.  And there’s definitely still time to plan on viewing the parade on the boardwalk. Get up there on Saturday and have a blast.

Rock, Rock, Rock, Rockaway Beach.  Keith Bugsy Goldberg, who’s run the Summer Classic and Family Fun Run for years, is branching out. Bugsy will be producing The Bugalou Concert Series.  For now, the shows will be produced at St. Francis and St. Camillus. It sounds great. Each concert will consist of a 60 minute set by Rockaway’s most popular bands followed by a 90 minute performance from a nationally recognized recording artist, including multiple artists who have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

You know there’s been a lot of news about the Downtown Far Rockaway rezoning and the City’s promise of pouring more than $200 million into the area. Well, the City Council approved the rezoning on September 7 and now the mayor just has to put a signature on the deal. And that’s a sure thing.

What’s the average rent for a two bedroom in the Financial District? According to Newsday, the monthly rate is $6013 !! And a studio fetches $3094. And none of them have a beach view.

Got 10 or 20 in you? That’s miles. John Edwards and the Rockapulco Running outfit are having their Fall 10 & 20 Milers this Saturday, September 16 with a start time at 7 a.m. Registration is at the Community House from 6 a.m on. Check out rockapulcorun for more info.  20 miles?  Well, it’s good training for the NYC Marathon just weeks away.

George Johnson and John Carlin have been down in Houston helping families who were flooded. George reports that the people are great and has made the whole trip worthwhile.  We’ll have more next week.

The big storms, Harvey and Irma (and we’re keeping an eye on Jose) seem at odds with this news item but what the heck: there’s a lobster in Maine that is predicting six more weeks of summer. Sophia DeVirgilio sent us the story about the prognosticating crustacean named Passy Pete who is found in the Passagassawakeag River in Maine. Sounds like a relative of groundhog Punxsutawney Phil who predicts winter. Passagassawakeag? Hmm…That also sounds like pass a gas a week.

Congratulations to Mike Scala who came on top in the Democratic City Council Primary Race. Scala has been a longtime and ardent supporter of Queens Rail, the reactivation of the Rockaway Branch line, which would mean a 35 minute commute to midtown. Scala will now challenge the incumbent Eric Ulrich in November.

Wondering about those curb cuts on Newport Avenue from Neponsit through Rockaway Park? They are redoing to make curbs ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliant.  It's from a wider program and more such curb cuts will be done throughout Rockaway.
