Do you have a closet full of clothes you no longer use, much less remember? Garments, shoes and accessories with the tags still on? Instead of hoarding, clean out your closets, gather the no longer desired items, and swap them at RockaSwap’s clothing swap this Sunday, March 26, from 2 to 5:30 p.m. at Rockaway Brewing Company, 315 Beach 72nd Street.
How it works? The items you bring are swapped with other folks’ oldies, but goodies. According to RockaSwap organizer, Kate Horan, folks who swap, can take anything they like home! Remember to bring your own bag to take stuff home. This is an event for women, men and children.
“The idea for this began when I lived in Rincón, Puerto Rico, and participated in a clothing swap at a friend’s.” Horan said. “I thought, "Wow, this would be an amazing idea to get the Rockaway community together to recycle clothes and help local families in need. When I moved back to Rockaway, I started clothing swaps at my house, and then eventually threw my first big swap at the now closed Playland. Now I am doing it at the RBC. This will be my third swap in Rockaway.”
RockaSwap is also collecting prom attire. Horan said, “There is an upcoming Prom Boutique, so dig up those dresses and suits you'll never wear again!”
All of leftover clothes collected are donated to nonprofit organization, We Care New York, who in turn gives the clothing collected to families in need.
