Rust Already?

Dear Editor:

As I start my annual lose weight walks along the "board"walk, I sadly notice that the new benches between Beach 116th Street and Beach 117th Street are already starting to rust. While I feel that much of the oceanfront project was well-constructed, it appears that the quality of the metal bench frames are not well-suited for exposure to salty sea air and wind blown sand. Hopefully this is just a bad batch of frames, and is not indicative of additional problems. Rust stains on our new promenade or wet paint signs, for what should have been unnecessary maintenance, seems unfair to the Rockaway community. I think that the NYC Parks Department should hold the vendor responsible for replacing the defective benches and obtain some type of guarantee from future defects.

Thumbs Up for Crockpots

Dear Editor:

I really appreciate how lately you've been posting crock-pot recipes in your "Recipe Swap" section. I was recently gifted a crock-pot for Christmas and I find it to be such a blessing. As a full time realtor, mom and wife, it's such a convenience for me to set up my crock-pot after I've put my son to bed and have it cooking during the night so that in the morning my dinners are ready for that evening.  If I'm showing homes later than usual or meeting new clients or dealing with a fussy son, it's one less thing on my mind to do and I know that when my husband is ready to eat, dinner is done. Thank you.
