Thanks For The Memories

Dear Editor:

(Re: Rockaway Ole' Times)  Thank you for the picture and caption of the old Washington Hotel. I am the granddaughter of Sylvia and Barney Levine, the founders of the hotel. Three generations of our family ran the business for 50 years. My parents, aunt and I are still Belle Harbor residents. The hotel employed hundreds of local residents over the years, and many employees and customers alike became lifelong friends of the family. The work was a labor of love for our family, hosting all kinds of occasions and events. On Friday nights, our guests would dress to the nines and take leisurely walks on the boardwalk. As did many others who lived in the neighborhood. It was a grand time in our family's history and seeing the picture in your paper brought back wonderful memories. Thank you.

Ignorance is Bliss

Dear Editor:

(Re: Parking Wars Dominate CB) Ignorance is bliss!!! There were more than four opportunities to express your view on this issue, it was in the local papers and posted all over Facebook on FoRB with over 8000 members and Rockaway United with 2000 members. Emails went out from myself and Danny Ruscillo to hundreds of Rockaway people. At the CB 14 transportation meeting the room was PACKED with 98 percent saying NO parking. RBCA supported the decision. Along with the RCA. For Edwin Williams, president of the Harbour Pointe II Arverne Homeowner’s Association to say he didn't know is a shame. YES Ignorance is bliss!!!
