A Letter To My Child

Be Well Be Happy

It’s time to say goodbye and set you free to live your beautiful life. We have loved and supported you throughout your childhood, but it is time for you to soar high and leave the sheltered nest. Your home has been your safe haven, providing you with everything you need, but now is the time for you to use your wings and fly away. You are so ready for the world to meet you. Don’t let fear get in the way. We love you with our hearts and still will continue to be your support team, but you must learn to live in this vast universe.

Transitions can be frightening. The fear of the unknown can throw us off balance and stir up a flow of emotions. We may attach to these strong emotions without knowing it is normal and necessary to experience these feelings and they will help us to move forward into our new life. Perhaps if we sat quietly in meditation we could get past the emotional component or we could really listen to why we are feeling fear and insecurity when leaving our nest. Anticipating our future can be all consuming within our fragile minds. However, change is constant and you must learn to flow with the changing tides.  Resist it and you will be uneasy within your body and mind. It is necessary to plan your future but you must be careful not to abandon the present moment.  If you stay present, you will find bliss. One breath, one moment, one minute, one hour, one day at a time. Easier said than done.  Just don’t overthink the process. Become an observer and witness.

Growing pains are part of life. In fact, suffering teaches us how to live with compassion and love for others. You must always love yourself first. With this you will be able to give to others in a selfless manner but YOU come first. Take care of your needs so you can be strong and resilient. Life is not always so easy. There will be people you meet who have unstable energy, do not take their energy in, and steer away from negativity. Find joy in the simple things of life. Leave the I and Want out of your conversations. You have everything you need deep inside and no one can take that away from you unless you let them. You are a brilliant light, full of kindness and love, so shine brightly. Never let anyone or anything take up space in your head. You are now the captain of your ship.

Becoming an adult and going out into the real world can be scary. You will become more responsible and learn to support yourself. One day you may become a parent and you will know what it is like to raise a child. I am not telling you it’s going to be easy, but I will tell you it’s going to be worth it.

Whenever you find yourself doubting how far you can go, just remember how far you have come. Remember everything you have faced, all the battles you have won, and all the fears you have overcome. “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.” -Marianne Williamson
