It was a welcome fit for heroes.
On Thursday, July 6, residents from Rockaway Park to Breezy Point lined the streets as they awaited the arrival of several wounded warriors from the Hope for the Warriors program. With flags and banners in hand, neighbors gave the visitors a warm, patriotic welcome as they paraded through town on Thursday evening.
Throughout the rest of the weekend, the warriors got to enjoy surf lessons, paddle boarding, boating, receptions, fireworks, a dinner cruise around Manhattan and more. The event was made possible by several volunteers and help from the New York City Fire Department (FDNY), NYPD and Rockaway Point Yacht Club. The Gary Sinise Foundation provided hotel accommodations for the warriors and their families, and the Portable Pig Man provided food throughout the weekend. The weekend came to a close with a memorial Mass at the 9/11 Memorial in Breezy Point on Sunday, July 9.
“Words cannot express our gratitude for all involved to make this weekend possible!” Hope for the Warriors said on their Facebook page. For more information about the organization, visit www.hopeforthewarriors.org/
