Far Rock Street Renamed For Fallen Officer

Detective Randolph Holder will forever be remembered in Far Rockaway, not only by those who knew and loved him, but the entire community. On Friday, August 4, a ceremony was held to rename the corner of Briar Place and Collier Avenue in Far Rockaway, Detective Randolph Holder Way.

Last Friday, family, friends and fellow NYPD officers, gathered in Far Rockaway to pay their respects to Detective Holder, who was killed on duty in an incident along the FDR Drive in October 2015. Holder was pursuing a suspect who had stolen a bicycle when he was shot in the head by the suspect. This past April, the shooter was sentenced to life in prison.

Holder was a Guyanese immigrant and a third generation cop who called Far Rockaway home. The newly renamed street is across the street from his family’s residence.
